The Summer Maintenance Student will support day-to-day operations at Lochaber Lake Lodges by helping maintain the property, preparing guest spaces, and ensuring a welcoming environment for visitors. This role offers hands-on experience in hospitality, property maintenance, and guest services. Students will receive training in equipment use, safety protocols, customer interaction, and tourism operations.
Grounds & Facility Maintenance: Perform routine lawn and grounds care, including mowing, trimming, edging, and general cleanup. Perform leaf raking, tree trimming, assisting with tree felling and cutting, wood splitting, brushing, trail blazing/clearing, vineyard maintenance. Safely operate and maintain equipment such as lawn mowers, trimmers, edgers, compact tractors, and chainsaws. Assist with upkeep of outdoor recreation areas, walking paths, decks, docks, and property signage. Support minor repairs and basic maintenance tasks as directed.
Pool, Hot Tub & Outdoor Equipment Maintenance: Clean, vacuum, drain, refill, pressure wash, and maintain swimming pool and hot tubs in accordance with safety and hygiene standards. Conduct regular water testing and adjust chemical levels under supervision. Report maintenance concerns or irregularities promptly.
Guest Support & Customer Service: Greet guests and answer general questions about lodge amenities. Provide recommendations for local attractions, restaurants, outdoor activities, and community events. Help ensure guest areas are clean, stocked, and ready for arrival.
Turnover & Housekeeping Support: Assist with lodge turnovers between guest stays. Remove dirty laundry and prepare linens for washing. Perform laundry duties, including washing, drying, folding, and properly storing linens and towels. Restock guest supplies, organize storage areas, and ensure lodges meet cleanliness and presentation standards.
Inventory & Supply Management: Restock items such as firewood, laundry supplies, guest consumables, and water-softener salt. Monitor inventory levels and notify supervisors of shortages.
Recycling & Waste Management: Sort and dispose of recyclables, compost, and garbage according to municipal guidelines. Garbage sweeps of grounds, Maintain clean and organized waste-management areas.
Must meet Canada Summer Jobs eligibility requirements:
Interest in outdoor work, hospitality, tourism, or maintenance. Ability to lift, carry, bend, and work outdoors in variable weather. Comfortable interacting with guests and working as part of a team. Willingness to learn equipment operation, housekeeping standards, and safety procedures.
A valid driver’s licence and clean abstract is required.
Must be capable of lifting and carrying weights of up to 22.5kg / 50lbs.
No prior experience necessary—full training provided.
This is an opportunity to learn the hospitality business from the ground up (literally). The student will gain experience in: Safe operation of grounds and maintenance equipment, hot tub care, cleaning systems, and water chemistry, hospitality operations and guest service, Turnover procedures and commercial laundry practices, Time management and prioritization, basic repair skills and tool handling.
The student will be supervised by the Operations Manager or Property Manager and will receive regular check-ins, on-the-job mentorship, and safety training. The student will be required to provide steel-toed boots (ideally easily removed for moving in and out of lodges) and equipment training will be provided.
